Thrice is neither dead nor dying
First of all, Stage AE may be the nicest venue I've ever been to. Nice big open floor, high stage, looks nice and new and clean. Didn't check the bathrooms, so can't speak to that, but everything else was big, open, accessible. Don't know about the upstairs either, but the main floor was great. Sound was okay. I think it relied too heavily on the drums, which drowned out some of the other instruments at times. But the speakers were plenty powerful, and I wouldn't even say too loud.
Okay, this was my second time seeing Thrice. They are incredible. There's not really more to say. Dustin is the epitome of a rock star on stage. All three of the mobile members have such terrific, engaging stage presence. Their musicianship is top-notch, presenting everything live with four musicians. Their set was a great combination of older classics and new stuff. The crowd was great. Everyone was excited and enthusiastic. People were considerate in the pit- tearing it up, but the second someone fell, half a dozen people were there clearing it out and helping the person up. It wasn't packed in the house, which is a bummer cuz I think Thrice deserves better, but was kinda nice because it wasn't crazy packed. Thrice played for a solid hour and half or so, which was great. La Dis was fantastic, didn't care much for the first band. Thrice: please, please, please come back! It was loads of fun.
